Historical significance

He is one of the main symbols of resistance in the southern Algerian highlands.

Their story

From the high plains south of the Tell, Ben Nacer Benchohra led a long-running revolt against French rule, moving between oases and steppe with a small mounted force. He coordinated with other resistance leaders and remained a fugitive chief for years before going into exile.
