Historical significance

Her case became an international landmark in exposing the use of torture during the Algerian war.

Their story

A young Algerian militant arrested in 1960, Djamila Boupacha publicly denounced the torture she suffered, with the help of her lawyer Gisèle Halimi and writer Simone de Beauvoir.
