His state is one of the earliest organized Muslim polities in the central Maghreb and a milestone of Algerian Berber Islamic history.

Their story

Founder of the Rustamid imamate at Tahert, in today's Tiaret region, Ibn Rustam led a community of Ibadi scholars and traders that turned a remote hill town into a renowned center of learning.
