Historical significance
His defeat marked the end of Numidian sovereignty and the absorption of much of Algeria into Rome's African province.
Their story
Last great king of an independent Numidia, Juba I sided with Pompey against Caesar in Rome's civil war. After defeat at Thapsus, he chose death rather than capture, closing a chapter of North African royalty.
