Historical significance

His revolt forced Rome to commit major resources to North Africa and is one of the earliest documented Berber resistances to empire.

Their story

A former Roman auxiliary turned rebel, Tacfarinas led the Musulamii and other Berber tribes in a long guerrilla war against Rome across the steppes and mountains of what is now Algeria.
