Warda al-Jazairia

Born in France to an Algerian father, Warda began singing in Paris and rose to become one of the great voices of the Arab world, performing patriotic songs during the war and lasting classics afterward.

She is one of Algeria's most internationally beloved cultural figures and a major name of Arabic song.

Her songs were broadcast on Radio Algiers in support of the FLN as a teenager.
